Taking Charge Of The Delivery
When are you going to pay yourself?
Founders make the mistake of working silly hours to build the company, but never translating that into an actual cost.
Then as you grow, you never seem to be able to afford to pay yourself.
As your business grows, your value as founder becomes tied to growing the company - not delivery.
The more of your time that is taken up with running the business, the less time available for you to grow the business.
And that is a lot of wasted opportunity for profit on the table.
At some point, you have to include your operating costs (including your salary as founder) in your numbers - and they have to still deliver a profit.
If you have been building on your own blood, sweat and tears but not seeing that needing to turn into a financial number at some point - it's going to be hard to carve out that money.
Start as you mean to go on - understand what salary you would like to take home from the business and factor that into to your build and pricing.
And while you're at it, factor in how you would hire someone to take charge of the delivery for you so you can focus on where you are going next.
Of course, you may not be in a position right away to draw it from the business - but at least the plan is to do it at some point.
