Size Doesn’t Matter As Much As You Think It Does
There are a lot of suggestions for #startups that used to be really important - and now just aren't.
Making your business look bigger and more impressive than you truly are is one of them.
A decade ago, it was normal to create an image of your startup that, it was established, professional - and already successful.
Because customers trusted established businesses more than ones that had just started.
There was a lot of focus on getting the right company address (in a major city if possible), spending a fortune on a website and deciding between business cards that were premium or gold edged.
But this was really expensive and ate up a lot of your initial funds.
Most importantly, it didn't work.
Because everyone was doing it, you didn't stand out - you managed to keep up.
Fast forward to now and views have changed.
Mainly because it is so much easier for customers to find the truth.
A quick search can tell you how big your company actually is.
Whether they look at how many directors your limited company has, or they search how many other businesses are registered to that address - it is easy to find out the true size of your company.
So I say don't even bother.
Customers want to see congruence between what you say you are and what they can find out about you.
So tell the truth but with a narrative of your vision for where your business is going, your goals and ambition.
The journey of how you plan to succeed is the most interesting part for many of your potential customers.
They understand that you can have big dreams and big plans while it is just only you.
Allow them to see your development and growth and allow them to celebrate them with you.
