Fuelling Your Business

Your motivation drives you forward in your business - but did you know you have two types of fuel?

And one is more powerful than the other.

The first fuel that you can use to drive yourself forward is pain - being in an uncomfortable situation, so uncomfortable that the risks you will need to take to grow your business feel like the best possible choice to make.

Literally anything else would be preferable.

Many founder stories start from here - from that moment of "That's it, I'm done with this."

It's the concept of the 'burning bridge' - you are in a situation that you cannot possibly stay in.

This is rocket fuel for your business.

Trouble is - it burns quickly.

For it to keep pushing you forward, you must stay in a painful situation.

As your situation improves, the pain reduces and all of a sudden, you can't get motivated.

Your business does okay, but the initial spurt of energy you had to get it going in the first place has just - vanished.

That's where the second fuel source comes in - happiness.

Doing something because of what you will get out of it will bring so much joy to your life, it becomes a powerful magnet for your energy and motivation.

Maybe it is the time with family, the luxury lifestyle, the knowledge you are helping to save the planet - whatever would bring you the most joy and satisfaction becomes your energy supply.

But the fact is - you run from a painful situation way quicker than you run towards a happier one.

The urgency of getting out of pain will propel you forward a lot quicker than driving towards a pleasurable goal - and that has a lot to do with the present moment.

You can imagine the pleasure that you will get from making your business a success.

But you are feeling the pain right now.

At some point, you have to change the fuel source from the thing that got you started to the thing that keeps you going.

So what are your two sources of fuel for your business?
